I found this video today, and absolutely love it. A young man, looks like he might be a popular charismatic fellow, perhaps “One of the guys”. Yet he has enough sense to actually analyze real issues, and come to logical well thought out conclusions. Watch this man take on homophobes in an entertaining and educating video.

Not the most elegant solution that I have come across, but certainly a noteworthy hack. Looks like it would be one of the simplest and cheapest ways to implement an electric bike, although I think you would run through batteries rather fast. It might be more open to use as regenerative breaking though, providing it didn’t cause an excess of friction on the tire and wear them down.

Interesting Bicycle Motor Mounting Technique.

I can see the advantages and disadvantages of this type of motor mount almost immediately. But nonetheless it is one of the most elegant solutions I have seen in a while.

I recently decided to look into the idea of attaching an electric motor to my wife’s bike, to help with her commute. While researching, I stumbled across this awesome site with loads of information on making your own DIY Brushless motors as well as loads of other useful information.

RSS Keyword Alerts!

I spent a great deal of time looking for a program that would grab a list of RSS feeds, scan them for keywords, and alert me in some way if there was a match. Unfortunately I was unable to find any suitable free program that would do what I needed. However after much searching I have found ZapTXT which allows you to receive keyword alerts for RSS feeds via Email, Mobile [sms] or, a variety of Instant Messengers. I tried to set it up to work with Google Talk but after inviting it’s bot to my user list it never accepted my invitation. However I did manage to get it to work with MSN Messenger (ugh) so I am using that at the moment.

I originally planned on working on a php/mysql solution but didn’t have the time to work on it, however I have put it on my todo list so hopefully I can get something good up soon.

Okanagan Region – Give away your old crap!

It’s always great to start off a post with a bad cliche, but it fits. Following a recent “Bulky Items” pickup day — allowing local residents to throw away up to 2 large items like furniture, excluding electronics — the individuals involved have started a website, allowing people with old crap to dispose of it in a manner that will let other people enjoy the rest of it’s life.
